Use Promotional Codes at Xmas

Posted by Jasmine
December 11th, 2009

I’m a big fan of shopping online. I haven’t always been, but I have done most of my Christmas shopping online this year. It’s amazing when you realise just how many discounts you can get on the Internet.

I love all the promotional codes and voucher codes as they are often known. I got a discount on a blender on Amazon, and on a hotel booking. There are several leading websites that I would recommend for good voucher codes and promotional codes.

You can literally save a fortune and the sites seem to have offers on anything. You can save on booking concerts – anything. Just make sure you read all the offers available to you, or you could end up missing out. And some of the offers are only available for a limited time so be quick or you’ll miss out.

You can search generically on Google for promotional codes, or specifically for things like hotel voucher codes, or amazon discount vouchers and you are sure to find a range of the best sites on offer.

So if you’re on a budget and shopping online appeals to you then get on a site that can help you save money. Or get a promotional code for a restaurant in your local town or city, and do your Xmas shopping the traditional way, knowing that you’re sitting down to a bargain meal courtesy of your favourite promotional code website.

Happy Xmas!!!

Models as Muse in New York

Posted by Jack
December 6th, 2009

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has just opened a new exhibition entitled ‘Models as Muse’. The exhibition celebrates some of the most beautiful models in the world and their contribution and inspiration to the world of art. It also serves as a reminder of some of the ways in which beauty has changed and evolved over the years and how ‘plainer women’ are just as beautiful as any supermodel.

The exhibit opened this week at the museum’s costume institute and it features high end fashion from post World War II haute couture to grunge and minimalism in the 1990s and everything in-between. The exhibition is made up of photos, magazine covers and advertisements, clothes music and film clips. The exhibits show every aspect of the fashion world in all the different time periods covered and provide an extensive catalogue of popular fashions in that time frame.

The show aims to show the power of fashion and models and the influence they have had on the way we consider beauty. Many stars have already attended the exhibit and have showed of some great fashion items of their own, maybe they too will one day have a piece in a museum somewhere.

Lily Allen Turns Her Hand to Modelling and Designing

Posted by Chloe
December 2nd, 2009

Lily Allen has always been a trend setter, ever since she started to appear on the celebrity scene. Her fashion sense has always been very individual and even a little quirky and this has made her one of the most watched celebrities in the UK. She has designed clothing for a major high street chain already and she is set to do even more designing in the future. She has recently signed to a modelling agency and there has been a lot of interest in using her for various modelling jobs. She has also designed a range of jewellery which will be released and will, in all probability, be a big success.

Lily has been working on several modelling projects and is rumoured to be heading up a campaign for Chanel and so, it is likely that we will see much more of her in this role. She is, however, very shy when it comes to posing for photos and she suddenly becomes a different girl from the one we know; instead of being loud and opinionated, she becomes shy. She is not the typical model, being only 5ft 2 and a size 12, but, this is definitely a positive step by the industry and will be a very good example for young girls who aspire to be models.

Shopping in your slippers

Posted by Jasmine
November 30th, 2009

I went shopping this weekend and it was really stressful! It was bucketing down with rain, massively busy in Manchester city centre and generally annoying being bashed in the head with umbrellas and barged out of the way by fierce shoppers! Because of this I decided to give it up as a lost cause and head for the warmth of a mall. So I went to the Trafford centre and as luck would have it after 15 minutes of driving around the same part of the car park, ended up having a standoff with a large man over a parking space and then having to wait for an hour for some food. As you can imagine it was not the most relaxing day of my life. I ended up spending about a tenner in petrol, wasting half my day driving and being stuck in traffic and was in a furious mood. To top it off I only managed to buy two gifts! This is unacceptable and after my long day I arrived home to see my flatmate sat with her feet up (fluffy slippers on), with a mug of hot chocolate and the laptop on her knee. She had got up late, had a leisurely day and done all her Christmas shopping online. The moral of the story girls and boys is to forget that shopping burns carbs. Get shopping on the internet and then squeeze in a session at the gym. Job done!

Personalised gifts

Posted by Jasmine
November 29th, 2009

Personalised gifts are always really special to receive because it’s not just that you have received a gift that should be your favourite colour/size/taste, but it’s the fact that thought, time and effort has gone into a gift that you have been given. Why not give handmade gifts to your friends and family this year. Make cookies for your friends at work, knit a scarf for your Gran, give your Dad a tie that you have personalised with a transfer of his favourite football team and make your best mate a bag out of a pair of jeans that don’t fit you anymore! Personalised t-shirts are always an excellent idea. Buy some t-shirts from Primark for a couple of pounds, get some beads and sequins from your local haberdashery shop and take an hour or so creating a unique version of the glitzy Tees that are all over the shops now. In that case you can ensure that you’ve given a gift that you know no-one else will have. If you need inspiration look online at one you think the recipient will like and copy the design as best you can! There are ways and means to give excellent presents on a budget, you’ve just got to have the know-how. And now you have!

Christmas Markets!

Posted by Jasmine
November 29th, 2009

A great way to get some individual and unique Christmas presents for your friends and family is to purchase them something from a Christmas market. No-one would expect to find such a vast range of hand-made crafts, clothes, accessories, food and drink at a Christmas market that would be more than suitable for gifts. Every year I go to the Manchester Christmas market and the Lincoln Christmas market and I must buy at least half of my Christmas presents from them. My mother likes jewellery and therefore I always find her an unusual pendant or pair of earrings and my Gran likes cooking and so last year I bought her some decorative ramekins and a garlic grinding plate. These things are not necessarily something you would buy yourself, however that’s always the best kind of present. That is, unless it’s hideous and it’s bought for you by someone who doesn’t know you! There’s a fine line people! As long as you know the person you’re buying for and you put thought into your gift there’s no reason why your special presents from the Christmas Market shouldn’t earn you the adoration of the recipient. There are usually local artists present at the Lincoln Christmas market and it’s a fantastic opportunity to bag yourself or your loved one some original art at a rock bottom price.

Shop smarter

So you’re wondering what to buy people for Christmas. We have less than a month and I for one am panicking. If your budget is tight but you’d like to buy the special people in your life something a little bit more luxurious than you can afford why not get down to TK Maxx and hunt out a bargain. As long as people recognise the name or make of the designer gear you buy them they will believe you’ve spent a bomb when really you’ve made friends with Mr Maxx and got a bargain! Try it for those people you’ve not really got a clue what to buy for such as your Gran or your Aunty who lives down south who you hardly see! A nice pair of leather gloves or a designer handbag or scarf would go down a treat and you’ll be regarded as ‘the one who gives the good presents’ which to be honest, it’s always good to be! And just think, if you look a little bit harder and find something that everyone will love you’ll feel all warm inside when they rip open their gift and genuinely love it, rather than the fake smile and an oooooh that you usually get when you give them bubble bath.

Swap things

Posted by Jasmine
November 20th, 2009

There are lots of sites out there at the moment that are promoting swapping things that you don’t want for things you do. Think about it, if you’re moving house and you either need to get rid of stuff that’s not totally ruined, or you haven’t got certain items but you can’t afford to buy them, this is a great idea. Just go onto Google and type in ‘furniture swap’ or ‘swapping sites’ or something similar and you’ll be able to search the adverts for things others are wanting to get rid of, or search the wanted ad’s or place one for something you want to get rid of. It’s brilliant and a real benefit if you’re struggling for essentials like furniture or appliances.

Budget Christmas

Posted by Jasmine
November 16th, 2009

So you’ve got a limited budget and lots of friends and family who you want to get some fabulous presents for this Christmas. Problem? Not so much. If you set a budget and stick to it you can get some really great presents and still afford that amazing party dress for your Christmas do! The best tips would be to scout out places where you will find some unusual gifts such as vintage shops, boutiques and designer outlets like TK Maxx and TJ Hughes where you will come across some unusual finds. It does take a bit longer and you’ll need a good few shopping trips to get things for everyone however it’s worth it. Think about it, you’ll get lots of exercise trekking back and forth, you may discover some amazing places you wouldn’t have gone to before, you’ll give unusual gifts that people wouldn’t necessarily have bought themselves and you’ll save your pennies. Once you get to the age where you can buy what you want, when you want it, Christmas doesn’t really have the appeal it did when you got a fiver pocket money every week. Therefore by buying things for people that they wouldn’t necessarily have bought themselves it a great idea. I once got a candle for Christmas from a friend. This candle cost £12 and I would never have bought myself a candle for £12! It was a novelty and it’s saved for special occasions, what a great gift!

Staple shoes. You need these.

Posted by Jasmine
November 12th, 2009

Most women have various pairs of shoes in their wardrobe that they do not wear. You wear the same 10 pairs over and over again, don’t you? Me too. Taking influence from Gok Wan’s capsule wardrobe, I have come up with the top 10 pairs of shoes that every woman needs. If you have these, there is no occasion you won’t be able to handle;
1 – Simple black flats – ballerina pumps
2 – Black court shoes
3 – Black peep toe heels
4 – Grey/Navy suede heels
5 – Red kitten heels
6 – Pink/Purple/Green/Blue ballerina pumps with embellishment on the toe
7 – Brown leather wedges
8 – Comfortable but stylish ‘trainers’ (for when you have to be doing anything that requires exercise)
9 – Black, Knee high or over the knee boots with a medium heel
10 – Brown calf boots (cowboy, wedge, ruched, etc)
Invest in a pair of each of the above, obviously taking your personal tastes and preferences into account (if you like very high, go very high and if you prefer a platform, go for a platform) however by sticking to this list you will always have a pair of shoes for every occasion. One of the first three should be patent leather , preferably the peep toes or the courts, to give that special outfit some shine!
